Data requirements

NURIPS is not a HIPPA-compliant system
All data must be de-identified prior to uploading to NURIPS - DICOM headers must be stripped of PHI
PIs are responsible to ensure all data practices are being met
Audits of the system that result in PHI found may result in studies and PIs being locked out of the system

How to upload data

Preferred - Use the NURIPS website:

Login to NURIPS
Select Upload → Images → Compressed Uploader
Select your Project, the Archive Button and your compressed file (.zip, .tar or .tar.gz) that contains DICOMs to upload

Navigate to the Compressed Uploader tool using the Upload menu

Step 4: Project Info

Fill out the project information on the XNAT Compressed Uploader menu and upload a compressed (.zip, .tar or .tar.gz) file containing DICOMS to upload images to NURIPS. Non-imaging data, such as E-prime files must be uploaded once images are are loaded in the scan folder

Use the XNAT Desktop Client Application:

Login to VPN using Global Protect with your NetID credentials
First time use - Configure XNAT Desktop Client by adding in the following URL: http://nuripsapp01.fsm.northwestern.edu:8080
Enter Northwestern University NetID and credentials
Click Upload Files and follow the screens. See screenshots below for more details

Open the XNAT Desktop Client and Add New XNAT Server

Add XNAT Desktop Client specific URL and login with NetID credentials

Step 4: Upload

Select Upload button to upload a session to a project.

Step 5: Select Project

Select the existing project to upload DICOMS. Project must already exist on NURIPS. If the project does not exist, it must be created through the website first.

Step 6: Anonymization Warning

All data on NURIPS must be anonymized and stripped of PHI/PII prior to uploading to NURIPS. This is typically performed prior to uploading so anonymization may or may not be ignored.

Step 7: Select Data

Select an UNCOMPRESSED folder of DICOMS to upload.

Step 8: Import Data

Once a folder is selected you are directed to mark the checkbox next to all found items to select those you want to import. Click Upload to begin importing files.
